When thinking about collectables in the home, it is all about one thing – personality!
As collectables are something that means alot to the individual they should reflect that interest. Collectables are usually something you would want to cherish forever and pass on to someone later in life, so consider this when starting a collection.
There are many aspects of collecting that we must consider, but first we must establish the difference between collections and collectables. There is a difference! Collections are often large numbers of one thing, for example different paintings by the same artist or playing cards from a certain era for example.
A collectable on the other hand is something that is to be cherished for a long time or holds some significant emotional value for the owner.
Where do I put collectables once I have bought them?
It is important to consider the safety and protection of your collectables as you will want to preserve their look and tidiness, but also value! Think how much your figurines or glassware could be worth in 20 years time if it is still in mint condition, without chips or dents.
Because of this is should always be worth getting a storage cabinet or stable glass cabinet to show of your collectables in the home. They should be your centrepiece, something that you and friends can enjoy when they visit.
To mix or match?
You should also consider whether or not you wish to stay exclusive to one type of prestige collectable or in fact you wish to branch out and create multiple niches in which to collect. Many collectors will just settle with one type of collectable, for example glass bowls or animal sculptures.
This is entirely up to the individual, but often mixing too many different types of collectables will look a little messy. If you choose to do this, ensure you arrange the items separately, so that they can all be appreciated properly.
The most important thing with collectable items is to cherish them and by looking after them, you will have them for years to come.
